Delivery venture beats dog walking any day

Having been asked to arrange a last-minute holiday for a client, the only suitable availability was to Bulgaria.

However the client held a Mauritian passport and needed a visa. The application took longer than I thought and subsequently the passport was only available for collection two days before departure.

We normally use Hays Apollo Despatch for all our document deliveries but this time they were unable to help us. They did however offer to sub contract the work to Omega Express. The passport did not arrive as Omega Express lost it somewhere in their Staines depot and eight weeks on it is still missing.

Not only was our client unable to take the holiday, he has had to apply for a new passport which will stop him from travelling for up to three months. Under the Package Travel Regulations 1992, the responsibility was ours and although the insurance has reduced our liability to £750, the actual loss is much more as we have spent much time and effort on this.

And as for Omega Express? All that we have achieved is an acknowledgment that they have failed us and rather belated “sincere apologies”. Maybe this is an opportunity here – guaranteed weekend document delivery could provide a good “new revenue stream” that has more potential than walking the client’s dog.
