ABTA attends crime forum
ABTAhas met the Metropolitan Police Flying Squad for the first Security Forum to combat the threat of crime in the travel industry.The meeting agreed that representatives from American Express, Travelcare, Going Places, Thomas Cook and the Metropolitan Police will look at issues including staff welfare, security and fraud.
The first project will be putting together an information leaflet with crime prevention advice for ABTAmembers and other interested agents and operators. The group – which plans to meet twice a year and is the first of its kind for the travel industry – has pencilled in another forum for February next year.
n Francetops the league for credit-card fraud, according to a global index of trouble spots for British holidaymakers produced by Barclaycard.
The index analyses all fraudulent transactions made over the last nine months.
France was closely followed by Spain and the US.
