ABTA E-Travel Forum sets up stall

CREDIT-card fraud and the perils of buying on-line will be the main concerns for ABTA’s new E-Travel Forum.

Thirteen travel firms including Airtours, British Airways and Web site TheFirstResort were represented at the forum’s inaugural meeting last week.

It was set up to discuss the growing impact of the Internet on the trade (Travel Weekly September 11).

Among the items for discussion were ABTA’s latest code of conduct provisions on Internet trading.

ABTAchief executive Ian Reynolds also briefed delegates on the association’s advertising campaign, which will focus on the issue of Web trading and the importance of ABTA membership.

The information and views gathered through the group will be fed into ABTA’s consultations at UK and European level.

ABTAlegal advisor Simon Bunce said: “We see this as a key way of placing the association at the forefront of the e-commerce revolution and those involved can ensure their concerns are reflected.”

The forum is to meet on a quarterly basis.
