Neilson predicts boom in sailing holidays
BRITAIN’S success on the water at the Sydney Olympics is expected to create a boom in sailing holidays, according to Neilson.
The Thomas Cook-owned operator predicted business will increase by 15% on the back of the British team’s impressive performances.
Neilson managing director Pete Tyler saidsimilar growth was recorded after similarlysuccessful performances during the Olympics in 1996, 1992 and 1988.
“Great Britain’s success is often the catalyst for holidaymakers to take up the sport or for those who have not sailed for a while to rekindle their interest,” he said.
Tyler claimed the operator had already seen an increase in the number of calls.
“There is a lot of interest in Greece where the next Olympics is being held,” he added.
Britain won three gold medals in Sydney and two silvers in the sailing categories.
