n border counties team up with northern ireland



The Irish border counties of Donegal, Louth, Leitrim, Cavan, Sligo and Monaghan are joining forces with Northern Ireland for the first time at the British Travel Trade Fair 2000. The fair, which takes place on March 22 and 23 at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham, provides the two sides with the first opportunity to promote themselves as a destination. The joint tourism promotion of the border counties and Northern Ireland is being backed by the Peace and Reconciliation Fund set up as part of the peace process.



n funchal madeira extension set for completion



A runway extension in Funchal Madeira is scheduled for completion in September 2000 as part of improvements to the Portuguese island airport. This will allow access for wide-body aircraft to international destinations and an rise in capacity. The passenger terminal will be improved to receive 3,600 passengers per hour increasing the yearly capacity to 3.5m. Work is due to be completed by 2001 and is part of a millennium improvement programme.



n Disney extends fastpass to more attractions



Disney has extended the Disney Fastpass to 13 of its most popular attractions including Kilimanjaro Safaris, Test Track at Epcot and Space Mountain, after successful test runs at the Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World in Florida. Visitors can avoid lengthy waits with virtual queuing: logging on with the pass, free of charge, gives them a time to return to the attraction within the hour. The pass is likely to be extended to Disneyland in California and Disneyland Paris in the future.
