Luxus signs deal for new vessels
Cruise ship company Luxus has signed an agreement with ship builders Cammell Laird to build two 28,000-ton ships.
The contract for the new ships, which will depend on the Department of Trade and Industry agreeing to funding, is the company’s first venture as Luxus.
A spokesperson from the Department of Trade and Industry said: “Cammell Laird has sent us a contract for the ship building and applied for money to carry out the work.
“We are also looking at Luxus’ business plan. We have to consider both of these before we can make any decision on whether to provide funding.”
The new ships would be the first cruiseliners to be built in the UK since Swan Hunter’s Vistafjord in 1973.
