Security stepped up after two shop raids

By Juliet Dennis

POLICE are investigating raids at two travel agents in the
southeast in which robbers netted over £5,000.

Detectives are not linking the incidents which both happened
on March 2 at Travelcare in Woolwich, southeast London and Lunn Poly in
welling, near Dartford in Kent.

Nobody was hurt in the raids but both involved employees
being held hostage. Four Travelcare staff, including a work experience student,
and three customers were forced into a back office before robbers left with
£1,500.

CCTV cameras are now to be installed at the Woolwich branch.
A Travelcare spokesman said: “We have to take it very seriously and the safety
of our staff s paramount.”

Earlier the same day two youths raided Lunn Poly in Belgrave
Road, Welling, threatening three female consultants and pushing them into a
back office. They took £4,000 from the safe and £40 from the till. A Lunn Poly
spokeswoman said security is constantly under review and no customers were in
the shop.
