English Heritage opens up for summer season
ENGLISH Heritage opened 220 properties for the spring and summer season as planned yesterday, despite the ongoing foot and mouth crisis.
English Heritage closed 178 of its historical properties in rural areas as a precaution against the disease but kept another 148 open.
It has now reopened another 72 properties.
English Heritage chief executive Pam Alexander said:”Many of the local communities surrounding our properties and monuments rely heavily on tourism. Large parts of rural England are still open.
“As long as people act sensibly and within the guidelines, they can still enjoy days out at our sites and other attractions,” she said.
“Those sites that have been closed will reopen as soon as it is safe for them to do so and we are optimistic that all will return to normal by the main summer season.”
In addition, English Heritage will open London’s Wellington Arch to the public for the first time this Wednesday following a £1.5 million restoration project.
Also, at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, a collection of treasures presented to QueenVictoria will go on display.
