Squeezing the last drop out of promotion
THERE are various reasons why visitors from around the world would flock to the UK – well at least before the foot and mouth crisis.
But to wander through our magnificent vineyards, sipping our world-renowned wine is not one of them.
However, that could be the case if members of the English Wine Producers have their way.
The EWP has launched an initiative to encourage more tourists to visit some of the country’s 380 vineyards.
During English Wine Week, running from May 26 to June 3, it will be trying to tempt visitors to vineyards by offering free tours and wine tasting. The EWPhas also asked regional tourist boards to rack its leaflets.
A good idea in theory, but last word’s not sure how well it will go down with the world’s well-known wine lovers, such as the French, Italians, Australians and South Africans.
