Mandela Leeds way to terminal opening
WHAT sort of celebrity would you expect to open the new terminal at Leeds Bradford International Airport?
Perhaps Leeds United manager David O’Leary, or maybe that other high-profile O’Leary, Ryanair chief executive Michael, might add a certain something to the occasion.
But you would be wrong, very wrong, to think any of these folk will be cutting the ribbon at today’s ceremony. The guys at Leeds Bradford have excelled themselves and secured the former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela to do the honours. But airport staff are playing down their achievements.
Asked how they got Mandela for the occasion, an insider confessed: “I haven’t got a clue.”
