BRITISHMidland is expected to announce which transatlantic routes it will launch for summer 2000 following open-skies talks over the weekend.
The carrier has licences for Heathrow services to New York, Washington, Boston and Miami but is barred from starting them under bilateral rules.
These are due to be revised, giving British Midland clearance to start flights, expected to be to New York and Washington.
The talks also focused on reopening the London-Pittsburgh route, dropped last year by British Airways.
In return for giving British Midland transatlantic access, Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines are expected to be given limited slots at Heathrow.
