HOTEL workers in the Balearics have called off their
planned strike action after unions reached an agreement over pay.
The walk-out – planned for July 26 and 27 – would have
affected more than 60,000 chefs, restaurant workers, bar staff and chambermaids.
Tiffany Blackman, director of the Balearics tourism ministry
Ibatur, said: “Everyone is delighted that the two sides managed to reach a
compromise. The threat of a strike would have been another negative for us in
what has been a difficult year.”
Unions had demanded a 6% pay rise for workers while
hoteliers had offered 3.5%.
