THE long-awaited court case to decide whether airlines have
done enough to prevent deep vein thrombosis gets underway today.
A total of 56 claimants are named in the group action, which
is being heard at the High Court in London. The claimants are trying to prove
that airlines were aware of the risks posed by flying, but did not do enough to
reduce the risks or advise passengers how best to avoid the condition.
Airlines named in the case include British Airways, China
Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Delta, Qantas, Britannia, KLM, Monarch, Air 2000,
JMC and Cathay Pacific.
The results of the case could be known later this week.
