AIRPORT
operator BAA recorded a 10.7% increase in year-on-year traffic in January,
carrying 8.8 million passengers.
Again,
the company attributed the rise to the growth of low-cost airlines at Stansted
and Edinburgh airports. The two airports handled 30.5% and 16.1% more
passengers respectively during the period – the largest increases of BAA’s
eight UK airports.
Heathrow
was 7.1% higher than January 2002, but Gatwick is still struggling following
September 11 and British Airway’s decision to move a number of long-haul routes
to Heathrow.
