SIX package holidaymakers have been confirmed dead by
operators, with a further four still missing, after last
week’s Asian tsunami.
Of the fatalities, three were travelling with MyTravel, two with
Kuoni and one with First Choice. Two of those missing are First
Choice customers along with one Kuoni client.
Federation of Tour Operators’ members Cosmos, First Choice,
Kuoni, MyTravel, Thomas Cook, TUI and Virgin Holidays had 6,250
clients in the areas affected – 80% of the total number of
package customers there.
Meanwhile, Accor senior vice-president Asia Reggie Shiu, his wife
and two of his three children are missing presumed dead. Shiu
– who has been responsible for the hotel chain’s
expansion in China – was on holiday in Khao Lak when the wave
hit.
