TV Travel Shop to cut costs

TV Travel Shop is to ditch third-party packages and
concentrate on selling items from parent Expedia’s inventory
in a bid to cut costs.

The channel has not confirmed when the change will happen, but will
consult staff before a final decision is made. It would not put a
number on potential job cuts. In a statement, the company said it
was aiming “to scale back its business overheads
accordingly”.

A source said the step was a natural move in cutting out costs and
pushing high-margin products.

Expedia has previously maintained it has no plans to close TV
Travel Shop, but has admitted the business has been under review.
TV Travel Shop made 200 staff redundant last year and outsourced
some of its business to a Belfast-based call centre.
