Stress puts agents health at risk

TWO-THIRDS of the travel industry say stress is causing them
sleepless nights, headaches, concentration problems and
irritability, according to Travel Weekly’s nationwide stress
survey.

And a leading stress expert has warned the industry could face a
health crisis if it does not tackle stress at work.

Survey author Cary Cooper, professor of organisational psychology
and health at Lancaster University, said bosses must act now to
prevent staff developing heart disease and mental health problems
long-term.

A phenomenal 4,119 people responded to our survey complaining
overwork, poor pay and IT problems are affecting their health. A
total of 73% of respondents are more stressed now than five years
ago.

Meanwhile, 64% said stress makes them irritable with friends,
colleagues and family, 60% have trouble sleeping, 58% suffer from
headaches, while 57% have difficulty concentrating.

Volume of work is the most stressful factor – 48% complained
of this.
