MyTravel brands merger could end in 99 redundancies

MyTravel could axe up to 99 staff if a proposed merger goes ahead between its long-haul operator Tradewinds and short-haul brands Cresta Holidays and Bridge Travel.

The affected staff – believed to include finance, operations, commercial and sales – entered a 30-day consultation on July 11.

A spokeswoman said: “Nothing is agreed yet and we won’t be able to say what has been agreed until the consultation is over, but it could potentially result in redundancies.”

The move has been on the cards since the managing director role was merged under Eamon Ferrin in February. Bridge and Cresta were merged in 2004 under the BCT Travel Group with 205 staff axed. Cresta Worldwide’s programme was dropped and product shifted across to Tradewinds.

The spokeswoman said there are no plans to merge any of the brand names and the operational sites will stay the same with Tradewinds based at Accrington and BCT at Altrincham. However, a source suggested a move to Altrincham could be on the cards because it is a larger property.
