Cruise database sold to rival

ONLINE retailer 1st4cruising.com has snapped up the customer database of failed call-centre giant Cruise Control for an estimated £400,000.

The former Page and Moy cruise brand – acquired recently by Harry Goodman and Clive Jacobs – beat rivals including TUI and Victoria Travel in a bidding war for the list, which contains 226,000 names.

Managing director Kevin Ivie said the deal effectively gave 1st4cruising the largest client database in the cruise industry.

“We are planning significant expansion in the future, and this is part of the platform for growth,” he said.

The database is thought to have been the most significant Cruise Control asset up for grabs.

A meeting of creditors last week revealed Cruise Control’s total debts are likely to be around £6 million once all of its assets have been disposed of.

Staff who lost their jobs in the failure have all applied for wages and redundancy payments under the Department of Trade and Industry’s compensation scheme.
