Midconsort says ‘No’

MIDCONSORT Travel Group members have rejected an invitation to join consortium super power Triton.

In a ballot held on Tuesday at an extraordinary general meeting at Nottingham East Midlands Airport, 65% of members voted against the proposal with just 5% backing it.

Chief executive Charles Eftichiou said members had been asked whether they wanted to extend their current relationship with Triton member Worldchoice.

“The important thing is our members have seen Triton for what it is,” said Eftichiou, who thought the group would become too focused on pushing Global product because of reliance on its technology.

He said members did not believe Triton has increased agents’ bargaining power, adding: “I don’t think the commission levels the top four set will be dictated by Triton.”

Midconsort will now work on its relationships with small and medium-sized tour operators while maintaining members’ independent status.
