NORTH Cyprus specialist Cyprus Paradise has won its battle to force Thomson to reverse its decision to derack its brochure.
Thomson had originally ordered shop managers to remove the brochure last month after bowing to pressure from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation which represents the Greek-Cypriot southern part of the island (Travel Weekly February 24).
However, Cyprus Paradise managing director Alan Suleyman said following the threat of legal action, Thomson had changed its mind and put the brochures back in stores last Monday.
Suleyman said: “We’re pleased to be back on the rack. We’re a little bit disappointed it happened in the first place.”
The original agreement had seen the brochure placed on the must-rack list until the end of the month before becoming a may-rack brochure until October with a similar deal in place with Going Places.
However, the CTO had approached both of the operators as part of a policy under which it writes to any agent stocking northern Cyprus brochures, asking them to be removed.
Following the change of heart, Suleyman said he had asked Thomson to repay legal costs incurred because of the dispute although he refused to say how much they were.
A Thomson spokesman refused to comment.
