RECRUITMENT companies have welcomed new laws that come into force in October to prevent age discrimination.
The new laws will make it a civil offence for employers to discriminate against workers on grounds of age and will ban age discrimination in recruitment, promotion and training. Bosses will also be prevented from forcing workers to retire before the age of 65.
The Equality Age Reguation law is coming in at the right time – a poll by the Chartered Management Institute and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development found 22% of manager and personnel offices surveyed admitted to age discrimination.
