Homeworker boosts sales with drop-in travel advice – 10 Nov 2006

Homeworker Lynda Woodhouse sets up 'shop' in the workplace to offer travel advice on the jobA homeworker has decided to get out and about in her community to help drive sales in her town, following a successful drop-in session at the local police station.

Lynda Wodehouse runs her own business from home and wanted to offer customers face-to-face advice on booking their holidays while they’re at work. She decided to approach Surrey Police to see if it would be of interest.

The force decided to offer Wodehouse a few hours to go down to the headquarters in Guildford where she set up with brochures to give staff and officers the chance to book or just ask questions.

Wodehouse who works for Instant Cruise Holidays, a division of Future Travel, said the trip was a success and managed to secure eight bookings in the day.

Wodehouse said: “My visit to the police headquarters was a success and the feedback I got was really positive. Police officers don’t often have the time to trawl travel agents or the internet to book their holidays, particularly as they often have to work shifts. That’s why I wanted to approach them at work and offer a helping hand.

“I can give a personal service and independent advice so they can organise their next break at a time which suits them, in their own station. I can arrange everything from car hire and travel insurance to accommodation and flights, helping to make life easier for them.”

Wodehouse now plans to approach other businesses and organisations in her town of Dorking and other areas to offer a similar drop-in service to help market her business.
