Record sales week for Hotels4U – 8 Mar 2007

Hotels4U.com reported a record seven days last week, taking more than £2 million in sales, proving the popularity of dynamic packaging, the company said.

The accommodation-only supplier had its three most successful consecutive days between Monday and Wednesday last week, fuelling its record week of around 10,000 guests.

The trade-only firm’s sales and marketing director John Harding added the record week follows on from January being the company’s best performing month.

He added a post-Christmas increase in disposable income had a big part to play.

“For most people, last week would have been the week after the year’s second pay day so people would have had more money to spend,” he said.

The company’s most popular destinations are package holiday strongholds such as mainland Spain, Turkey, Greece, Egypt and Portugal.

“It shows dynamic packaging is the way people want to book their holidays,” Harding added.

He also added the no-frills carriers’ expansion has helped to fuel growth.

“Costa Brava is one of the most popular regions, yet none of the package holiday companies go there anymore it’s all from no-frills capacity,” he said. “Morocco has also benefited from no-frills carriers flying there.”

Meanwhile, Harding revealed the company has a meeting with Midconsort Elite general manager Paul Cowley this week following Hotels4U being put on stop-sale by the consortium.

Midconsort Elite stopped selling the accommodation-only firm because it was mistakenly chasing agents for payment. Some agents also use the Worldchoice direct payment system, he said.

Harding said the situation came about because one Midconsort Elite member owes Hotels4U £35,000.

“The passengers had gone on holiday and they still had not paid us,” Harding said.

However, Cowley said Hotels4U had a separate payment deal with the agent, who can not be named, which had not been updated as its sales had grown.
