Survey reveals growing demand for regional flights – 24 Aug 2007

Flying from a local airport is almost as important as the cost of a holiday, a survey by Holidays Direct has revealed.

Customers were asked to choose the most important factor when booking flights from a list of options including flight times and the reputation of the airline.

Cost was the top consideration for 44% of respondents, but over a third of customers said the location of the departure airport was the most important factor.

None of the respondents said the option to check in over the Internet was a major consideration.

“We have noticed a change in the behaviour of our customers over the last few years,” said Holidays Direct marketing manager Paul Reeve.

“People are very used to being able to fly from their nearest airport. The days when holidaymakers from the north of England were willing to waste a day of their annual leave getting to Heathrow are long gone.”
