INDEPENDENT holidays will increase by more than 21% in the next four years as consumers package their own holidays on the Internet, a survey has forecast.
Research carried out by information specialist Key Note revealed the market share for traditional mass-market beach holidays has already fallen from 36.7% in 1995 to 34.2% last year.
It said the trend is likely to continue as people become used to booking on-line.
The Travel Agents and Overseas Tour Operators report also showed that UK expenditure on tourism last year rose 8.8% to £43.55bn.
