The growth of e-ticketing should mean most travel agents are spared the worst effects of the postal strike, according to ABTA.
The first one-day walkout by postal workers started today, while another strike is due on Monday. The strikes could mean there will be no deliveries until next Thursday October 11.
Although agents may want to send out travel documents early to ensure customers get them in time for their holidays, electronic ticketing should ensure travel plans are not affected, an ABTA spokesman said.
“Travel documents are a reassurance, but most customers do not have to have them to go on holiday. An airline will still let them on the aircraft without them. We do not foresee people missing their holidays.”
He said e-ticketing would mean those on scheduled flights were not affected. “E-ticketing has been good for the business and good for customers.”
