Homeworkers ‘could be like personal trainers’ says Future Travel boss

Homeworkers could soon be viewed in the same way as personal trainers, according to Future Travel’s new head Sheena Darby.

Darby took on her role this week, heading up The Co-operative Travel Group’s homeworking division Future Travel as it gears up for its post-Christmas recruitment blitz.

She said: “You would hope personal travel advisers become a sexy service provider like personal trainers. Research we have done with our homeworking customers suggests there’s an opportunity to start marketing that way.”

Homeworkers should advise customers where to go on holiday in the same way that personal trainers tell clients how to keep fit, particularly as holidaymakers have little time to research trips, she said.

“Homeworkers should be able to advise customers and have a good idea of where they would like to go because of the relationship they have with them,” she said.

Meanwhile, Darby said Future Travel will focus on recruiting a further 100 homeworkers next year.
