Former Highlife MD launches short breaks portal

An online travel portal featuring short break accommodation and leisure attractions has been launched by former Highlife Breaks managing director Margaret Simpson.

Moreweekends.com offers accommodation provided by Superbreak Mini-Holidays and Welcome Cottages. There are plans to offer Hoseasons’ cottages in the near future as well as bed and breakfast accommodation.

The portal, which had a soft launch before Christmas, also features visitor attractions, events, restaurants, entertainment, spas, golf and theatre break product. Product to be added in future includes health and beauty salons.

Simpson said: “It’s not just about selling hotels. I want it to be somewhere people can go to in order to look for things to do at the weekend.”

Simpson said the site will also act as a free events listings – there are plans to allow indidividuals to list local events under different UK regions.

Travel agents can use the site for information on places to go and see in the UK for their customers, but ultimately the trade will be able to make commissionable bookings through it.

“I am hoping to launch an agents’ version by the end of the year,” said Simpson.

The site earns commission when consumers link through the portal to white-labelled accommodation sites and make a booking with the hotel providers.

Other revenue will come from advertising on the site for UK offers and attractions.
