Free surfing to boost on-line travel buying

INTERNET service providers Freeserve and Breathe.net have become the latest companies to announce the introduction of free, unmetered access for subscribers.

Freeserve plans to offer a £6.99 a month off-peak package to customers with a BT telephone line and free all-day Internet access to those who make at least £10 worth of voice calls a month via its preferred supplier Energis.

Meanwhile, Breathe.net will offer free Internet access for a single, upfront payment of £50 from early April. The latest moves follow announcements of free or cheap Internet packages by AltaVista, NTL and BT last week (Travel Weekly March 13).

Industry experts claim the trend will help to lift the profile of on-line travel companies because people are likely to spend more time browsing the Internet if they don’t have to worry about the cost.
