Worldchoice ‘fear factor’ could benefit rival travel employers

Rival organisations hope to lure Worldchoice agents who do not want to join the Travel Trust Association, as well as Thomson and First Choice agents facing redundancy.

Recent uncertainty has led to a hike in enquiry calls from Worldchoice members to the Freedom Travel Agents’ Consortium, according to its head Jane Atkins.

She said: “We’ve had lots of calls; that says to me there’s a fear factor. Independent agents have the chance to make an informed decision.”

Travel Counsellors hopes its first live recruitment webcast on February 13 will be watched by not just TUI Travel staff but also Thomas Cook and Worldchoice agents.

The webcast, featuring former staff of agency chains, follows news TUI Travel will close 100 shops in the UK.
