Macau to show its business as usual

Macau will be using World Travel Market to convince the trade that it will be ‘business as usual’ following its handover to China on December 19.

The Macau Government Tourist Office said it was confident that the Portuguese colony’s return to Chinese administration would not affect its tourism business.

The UK representative Sharon Bernstein said: “Macau will continue to be a unique and exciting destination to visit in the Far East into the Millennium. We aim to step up our travel trade activity to further educate agents and the industry of the attractions that Macau has to offer.”

She said Macau was attempting to make the trade more aware of its attractions by participating in both the Pacific Asia Travel Association and Asia Travel Marketing Association training programmes. For the first time this year the destination will be exhibiting on the PATA stand during WTM.

Macau has invested heavily in expanding its tourism product, and new attractions being promoted at WTM include the Macau Museum, Cultural Centre and the Museum of Art. London agency Communications in Business will remain responsible for promoting Macau in the UK following the handover.
