Eurotunnel attributes dip in passengers to leap year

Eurotunnel Le Shuttle services showed a dip in passenger carryings last month due to an extra February day as a result of a leap year in 2016.

Passenger vehicle numbers dropped by 2% from 169,908 to 166,175, including cars, coaches, caravans, camper vans and motorcycles.

Le Shuttle freight traffic fell by 6% year-on-year to 127,494 trucks transported as snow in southern Europe led to the destruction of fresh fruit and vegetable production in parts of Spain and Italy, according to Eurotunnel.
