Simone Buckley steps down as Institute of Travel Management chief executive

Institute of Travel Management chief executive Simone Buckley is to step down in September to join the board of a new travel company.

Buckley will join as chief executive of the new group of specialist travel entities including Sandy Row Travel and World Club Travel.

Buckley joined the ITM six years ago following a career in the business travel industry including senior roles at Capita, CWT and HRG.

An executive search will be initiated by the ITM board of directors to fill the position of chief executive.

ITM chairman, Mark Cuschieri, said: “When Simone joined ITM in 2011 her remit was to bring commercial stability to the association and make it relevant to members for years to come.

“Her personality, entrepreneurship and passion have transformed the association which I think is clear for all to see.

“Her deep knowledge of our industry, understanding of the stakeholder community, and steady eye on the association’s best interests has led to great accomplishments and put ITM in a strong position for future successes.
“Whilst we say goodbye with a heavy heart we wish her well in her new venture.”

Buckley said: “It has been an honour to serve the members of ITM for the past six years and I’m eternally grateful to the ITM board of directors and many other volunteers who have supported us in our endeavour to secure ITM as the association for people who work in the business travel industry in the UK.”
