The hospitality industry is in danger of lagging behind when it comes to sustainability, hotel bosses have admitted.
Speaking at the Hotel Marketing Association’s Chief Executives’ Question Time, Red Carnation Hotels managing director Jonathan Raggett said hotels and customers could benefit from the adoption of green practices.
“Enormous savings can be made by hotels undertaking green initiatives. We have to make sure we are also giving something back to the customer,“ he said.
Interchange and Consort Hotels chief executive David Clarke said: “Customers will want to know what the hotel’s carbon consumption is. The industry has many challenges to face in terms of food and waste and we will have to start pulling our socks up.”
Customers will start taking sustainability into account when choosing their accommodation, and hotels must be prepared.
