Nearly two thirds of Brits yet to book summer holiday, survey reveals

A survey has revealed nearly two thirds of respondents are yet to book their summer holidays in the hope of securing a good late deal.

As many as 64% of the 25,000 Brits who answered the ebookers.com online survey said they hadn’t made their reservations while 31% said they already had. Just 4% said they wouldn’t be taking any trips this summer.

However, ebookers.com head of marketing Claire Howard Jones said those hoping to steal a last-minute bargain may face disappointment.

She added: “People are continuing to book late this year but experience shows that last minute bargain hunters will often be disappointed. Smart travellers know the best prices in the travel industry are mostly available to early bookers.

“Bargains can sometimes be found a few days before travel for traditional tour operator packages. With flights and tailor made holidays though, early booking is almost always best.”

Of those surveyed, 62% said they were planning on taking a beach break with Florida, California, Spain, Greece and Thailand being the five most popular destinations.

The remaining 38% are planning city-based trips with New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Las Vegas and Barcelona being the cities of choice.

The survey also revealed the majority of customers are abandoning the traditional two-week summer break, just 27% are taking two weeks while 22% are taking less than a week.
