Truly Independent Professional Travel Organisation chairman Nigel Harris has stood down from the role after leaving his job with tour operator OVP Travel.
Harris had chaired TIPTO for 18 months, but was forced to quit after resigning yesterday from his position as sales operations director for OVP Travel, a TIPTO member. He had been with the company for four years.
He said: “I’m really sad I had to resign as chairman of TIPTO. I really enjoyed that role and it was a great honour to have it.”
Harris added he decided to leave OVP Travel over the operator’s plans to chase more direct sales, adding: “That’s not my background, which is in retail travel.”
He said the departure was amicable and that he is now job-hunting within the trade, adding: “My background is travel or tour operating and that’s where I’d like to stay.”
