Global’s business is “in good shape” as the lates booking period approaches, the group’s managing director Andy Stark told delegates.
He told the event in Spain that group booking numbers were up 16% and agents had enjoyed a good start to the year with strong demand in January and February.
He said the Easter period did see a slowdown but that was due to the way the school holidays fell. “Coming into the lates period, I think the business is in good shape,” said Stark.
While the western Med continues to be strong, countries like Italy and Croatia are doing well and demand is being driven by low scheduled air flight prices, added Stark.
Martin Alcock, director of the Travel Trade Consultancy, highlighted government and industry data that suggests the prospects for the industry were good .
“There is a lot of negativity about but I think we can be quite positive.”
