Agent’s advice just doesn’t wash with soap’s directors

THEPATH to stardom can begin anywhere – even a travel agency.

When the makers of Channel 4’s teen soap Hollyoaks contacted Formby Travel WorldChoice in Formby about filming a scene outside the shop, they also asked if a member of staff could play a walk-on role.

Assistant manager Margaret Clementson was volunteered for the part by her manager, Jonathan Worthington, who very conveniently went off on holiday during the filming.

Margaret described her moment in the spotlight to Backchat. “Two of the characters, Cindy and Sean, are talking outside the agency.

“Then I open the door for them as they walk inside,” she said.

She tried suggesting new directions to the crew on the grounds that agents don’t spend all day bobbing up and down to open the door for customers.

“I thought it would be better for me to be doing something with the brochures on the rack first so it looked more natural that I should open the door,” she said.

“I told them but they weren’t interested. They said ‘just stand there’.”

Backchat is unable to reveal anything further about the scene for fear of giving away vital plot details. However, we are allowed to tell readers that the relevant Hollyoaks episode will be on air in mid-December.
