A car collided with a number of pedestrians in Melbourne, Australia today in what police described as a “deliberate act”.
The Victoria state ambulance service said 13 people have been taken to hospital. Several are in a critical condition.
Police said it is too early to say whether the incident was terrorist-related and the Foreign Office said the motivation is ‘not yet known’.
Two people were arrested after the car drove at speed into a crowd on Flinders Street, a busy junction in the centre of the city, said Victoria Police.
They have asked people to avoid the area.
The incident happened just after 4.30pm local time today.
Six people died in January when a man drove a car into pedestrians on Bourke Street in the city.
