BBC journalist and HARDtalk presenter Stephen Sackur is to host a lecture organised by travel industry clean water charity Just a Drop next month.
The lecture, titled ‘Is Water The New Oil?’, highlights the growing importance of water resources and the role rainforests play.
Sackur will lead the discussion on water resource issues and discuss whether future conflicts could break out over water shortages.
Guest speakers will be Global Canopy Programme director Andrew Mitchell and explorer Colonel John Blashford-Snell.
Just a Drop founder and chairman Fiona Jeffery said: “The aim of this lecture is to educate people about the significance of water as a resource and the crucial role it plays across many aspects of our lives.
“We will also explore how, as individuals and corporations, we can contribute hugely to its effective use, both in terms of conserving water and developing corporate social responsibility agendas that contribute to providing clean, accessible water to the poorest and remotest regions of the world.”
