Essex travel agent acquires travel management company

A travel agent is hoping to see his business travel sales increase by as much as 200% after acquiring a local travel management company.

Colchester Travel managing director John Bennett said the acquisition of ETA Business Travel, which is also based in Colchester, was completed on Monday for an undisclosed sum following five days of negotiations.

Colchester will maintain the ETA brand and keep on its two remaining sales staff who have moved to the new owner’s premises. The offices of ETA have been closed.

Bennett is hoping the deal will see his own business travel sales, which currently account for around 12.5% of his current business, triple.

He added: “We’ve been watching this company for some time. The deal is all about economies of scale; we will be able to achieve significant savings in running costs.

“It is part of our plan to achieve a more balanced mix of business and leisure travel.”
