Holidays still most important expenditure

Foreign holidays are the most important expenditure for consumers in 2010, a new survey for Thomas Cook has revealed.

The survey of 2,000 consumers, carried out by YouGov, shows that foreign holidays come out on top compared with other items of expenditure such as eating out, home improvements, buying new clothes and UK breaks.

Thomas Cook UK and Ireland chief executive Ian Derbyshire said:  “The research has proved, even during a recession, just how sacrosanct a foreign holiday is to the British public.

“We fully recognise what great importance the UK consumer places on their holiday, and that’s why for 2010 we are helping our customers to do more, without spending more.

“At Thomas Cook we’re going one step further, holidaymakers booking in January can book a 14-night holiday and only pay for 11 nights.

“We’ve also launched new hotels and flight routes, more all-inclusives, introduced water park-themed resorts, new soccer and stage academies, and increased the range of affordable luxury accommodation,” said Derbyshire

Thomas Cook is also offering free kids places, pre-school family offers, single parent family offers, and free meals for kids on selected holidays.
