Miles Morgan Travel to open 16th store

Miles Morgan Travel will open its 16th store this summer in Devizes, Wiltshire.

The shop will have room for up to five staff and house a foreign exchange bureau.

Owner Miles Morgan said he had been looking for premises in the market town for several months. The premises was formerly a British Red Cross shop which will be moving sites.

The agency is also relocating its Yeovil premises from High Street to the busier shopping area of Middle Street.

The shop will be around 2,000sq ft – twice the size of the current shop and have a much larger foreign exchange bureau.

It is also due to open in the summer and will employ seven staff, up from five.

The current Yeovil shop has been located at its current site for 10 years.

Morgan predicted shopping areas in towns would shrink, with “secondary” shopping streets disappearing, and prime ones flourishing.

“Devizes will be a great town for us. There’s only a Cook there so we could see it flying right away,” Morgan said.

“Yeovil has been doing really well in a small unit so once we get bigger the only way is up. I’m very optimistic.”

Morgan said nine years ago he could not have afforded the new Yeovil shop rent but as the business has grown and as rents have come down, he is now in able to move into his ideal location.

Morgan said sale this week had picked up dramatically across his stores following a “sluggish two weeks”.
