Volcanic ash causes Highland airport closures

Volcanic ash from Iceland has forced airports in the Highlands and Islands to close until at least noon today.

Inverness, Kirkwall, Wick and Stornoway airports have suspended flights because of a high density cloud of ash overhead.

Other airports in the area will be open as usual.

The Scottish Government has introduced a helpline for affected passengers. They are asked to call 0800 027 0504.

In the rest of the UK, flights are starting to get back to normal after six days of airport restrictions due to the volcanic ash cloud.
