Hong Kong airport targeted for more protests

Hong Kong international airport is again being targeted by anti-government protestors this weekend.

The FCO updated its travel advice to say that “large protests” are planned on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Demonstrators are expected to target the airport alongside Charter Garden in central district, the British Consulate-General Hong Kong, and Hong Kong airport.

“Passengers should allow extra time to travel to the airport,” the FCO added.

Hundreds of flights were cancelled at the airport on August 12-13 due to protests and violent clashes in the terminal buildings.

Demonstrations in Hong Kong have been going on for three months, sparked by a now-suspended extradition bill and concerns that China is trying to bring the territory under greater mainland control.
