Abta warns agents against trying to rebook Monster clients

Abta has issued a warning to its members not to rebook customers’ holidays following the collapse of Monster Travel yesterday.

The warning states that as Monster Travel was a managed branch of The Freedom Travel Group, Freedom will honour all bookings and any Monster customers are urged to get in touch with them.

The warning adds: “Please note that if members encourage customers to rebook, they will have been double-booked and may look to the member for recompense.”

Monster Travel was set up in Newcastle in April 2008 by former Hays Travel and Thomson Holidays employee David Hawke and his partner Julie Gilmore.

At the time of going under, the company employed 94 members of staff and used the Freedom Travel Group Atol to dynamically package holidays as well as selling standard packages.

Customers with forward bookings are advised to call Freedom Travel on 01782 828620.
