Cosmos to run full winter Algarve programme

Cosmos will operate a full programme to the Algarve this winter despite the withdrawal from the destination by the big two.

Ian Hailes, the operator’s head of product and commercial for Cosmos mainstream, said the destination is the operator’s third most popular package destination this winter and is served by 14 flights from Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester by the operator’s sister airline Monarch.

He added: “The Algarve has always been a popular winter sun destination for us and even more so now that we can offer a totally flexible programme allowing almost every duration possible through the daily flying provided by Monarch.

“Our winter programme is currently running almost 25% ahead of this time last year with the majority of bookings for packages as opposed to accommodation only.

“There is still a huge over 55’s market out there looking for a long stay winter sun package and the Algarve provides exactly that.
“Similarly, it maintains its popularity as a short break winter destination catering for golfers especially.”

Hailes said the programme is popular with single people as the operator features a number of hotels that don’t charge single supplements.

“We will continue to support our Algarve hotelier partners and currently have in excess of 100 properties on sale for this winter,” he added.

“It has always been a strong destination for our group, both from a tour operating and flight only perspective, and we will continue to operate on a year round basis to our mutual benefit.”
