Explosion hits Marrakech cafe killing 14

An explosion in a cafe popular with tourists in Marrakech’s main square has killed 14 people and left others injured.

Reports said the blast at the Argana cafe in the Djemaa el-Fna square may have been caused by a concentration of gas in the basement of the building.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos and confusion in the square, which is known for its snake charmers, fire breathers and food vendors. A photographer at the scene said he saw rescue workers pulling bodies from the cafe.

One witness told reporters most of the dead looked like foreign tourists, but this has not been confirmed.
