Magic launches Spain and Portugal brochures

THE Magic Group has split its Portugal and Spain product into dedicated brochures just 12 months after combining the programmes.

Marketing director Helen Baker said pressure on racking space forced it to scale down the Portugal product for 1999 and integrate into the larger Spanish programme.

But demand has forced its reintroduction.

“Our Magic of Spain brochure was being racked so we integrated the Portugal product to ensure a greater distribution,” said Baker. “As a result more people saw the Magic of Portugal product this year. Agents could see the interest being generated and asked us to reintroduce the more specialist areas for 2000.”

She added that agents have pledged to rack the new standalone Portugal brochure alongside the Spanish programme.

The Thomson-owned operator had added holidays to the northern regions including The Douro Valley, Costa Verde and Costa de Prata.

“Our research shows that clients are keen to explore these less visited regions combining a selection of accommodation,” said Baker.

A Manor House selection has been introduced, most with less than 10 rooms. Prices start at £295 for three nights at the Solar Manfalim in Evora, a town in the Alentejo region.

A coach tour – The highlights of Portugal – is also featured taking in Lisbon, Costa de Prata, Costa Verde and The Alentejo.

Baker said capacity has been increased by 40% but declined to reveal passenger numbers.

The operator is to launch its Spanish brochure later this month with Magic of France following in October.
